For those who dont know me, I have to admit that I am a HUGE fan of Recaro seats. I just love the superior build quality and also the good holding ability and comfort that Recaro offers. Here in Australia i noticed a lot of people favor BRIDE (pronounced "BREE DAY"), but its just a Japanese brand, so in Japan the coolest seat is the German built Recaro.

Today i picked up an oldstyle Recaro seat to use as the passenger seat in my ae86 Trueno. The beauty of such a seat is that it fits perfectly with the color scheme of my Trueno, a royal blue color that is pretty much the exact same shade and all.

It will be nice to have a black Recaro SR3 for my seat and a factory stock OEM looking blue recaro as Shan's seat.

New Cats !

Well, my Dad is back in Australia after the recent passing of our much loved Cooper.
I don't know how long he is back here, but i am guessing it is not for too long, due to the recent ill health of his own father in Malaysia... good to have him back, and i will even make the effort to get a plane flight and visit him.... yes in my previous blog I did state that i don't feel overly wanting to go and visit him again, due to Coopers absence, but apon hearing some special news, now i am motivated to visit for a day.

what is that special news ??

TWO NEW CATS !!!
how exciting !!!

yes it is very soon for my dad to get 2 more cats just after cooper has passed... but my way of thinking is that those 2 new cats can spread joy and happiness to use and uphold Cooper's spirit to us.

I cant wait to return and bring some dried fish for these 2 new cats and play with them.

Now here is my tribute to cooper....
a bright flame burning, just as the flame I will always have in my heart for him.

to finish off this blog entry, here i will post a few more photos of my best friend.

Sitting on top of my old ae86 levin, looking at my mini cooper S.... thats right, the origin of his name ^_^

"i want to eat those fish!" hehe.

the cutest cat ever !!

I will be gifted with knowing these 2 new cats and enjoying the happiness that they bring, I think they will uphold your spirit Best friend.
If i am a good man, i hope in the future that we will meet again Cooper.

GoodBye Best Friend

sigh... today was not a good day. I was out shopping with my girlfriend, and i recieved a text message from my dad. The message informed me that this morning our much loved cat; Cooper had died at the vet.

such a devestation to me as i dearly loved Cooper a lot and did not get to see him in his final days.

Cooper was only a few years old and he was the most friendly and playful and handsome cat i have ever seen.

Even now i am still in a strong state of disbelief of what has happened.... it just feels like a bad dream for something so unexpected to happen like this.

after leaving to move to melbourne and start a life here, it was fun to see cooper when i visited my father, i looked foward to it so much. Now I am sad to say, without Cooper around, i will not make such an effort to visit.

I remember the good times back at my dads house, i would sit in the sunlight inside the house and read car magazines, Cooper would always come up to me and rub against me and meow, and then after some time, he would sit right next to me.... he really was a best friend for me. I would always sit and pat him anytime i was sad or mad and he would calm me down so much, he truely was the best.

here is a tribute to my Cooper who died this morning on Friday May 29th.

I am going to post some of the few photos i have of him.

"we hate your grandfather don, does it hurt?"

proberly one of the funniest things i have seen in a LONG time !!

I encountered this on the game TAIKOU NO TATSUJIN DS: NANATSU NO SHIMA NO DAIBOUKEN (drum master DS: adventure of the 7 islands)... the DOKON DAN (bad characters of the game) felt hassled by the main character and his drum (DON) grandfather.

なぞの3人組ドコン団!?
牡丹・ニャンキー・ドラボット!
う~~~気になる!!

poor Don !! i really felt it was stupidly funny, but then i pictured don's happy face and i just thought "how can they say that to Don ! hes so cute and innocent"

It was good to see Chong Siew Weng (justin) return to melbourne for a few days to meet Shan and her family here in melbourne.

Sadly, Justin and I rarely get to see each other since i left home to start a new life in melbourne. Whilst we rarely get to see each other, when we do get to see each other, it is really great fun !

Shan, Jun, Kevin, Justin and I went and did a lot of fun things during Justins short stay in melbourne.

Justin Even made good friends with Jun and Kevin and their friend Greg.

It is good to have Justin in melbourne to show him more about his Chinese side, as we speak mandarin and english here and also do our grocery shopping at chinese places as well as eat at cantonese restaurants a lot.

hurry Sir !! return to melbourne again !!

the cars of the old days

(my ae86 Trueno)

People often wonder why i drive old 1980s and 1990s cars, and have no desire to really own new cars, well here is my theory on the matter.

As a youngster i remember seeing all the great Japanese racing cars of the late 1980s and early 1990s, it was a pretty exciting time for motoring history that introduced many big turning points.

late in 1989 Nissan Debut its most advanced car ever, the r32 Skyline GT-R, an AWD 2.6l twin turbo straight six that become the king of the road.

Honda VTEC brought engines with split personalities. Low cam with low end torque and High cam personality with hugh power. If you ask me, even today in 2009, the worlds best 1.6 is honda's B16B (followed by the earlier B16A), the best 1.8 is the B18C and the best 2.0 is the K20A.... a true testement to these old engines. to be honest, almost any small capacity engine without VTEC, they feel like unstreetable piles of junk.... yes, even my 4age can not compare.

1985 Toyota released its most radical car ever, the MR2, a mid engined rear drive 2 seat car intended as a baby Ferarri. It was the First mid engined Japanese car to see production.
A move that nobody saw comming from Toyota. Toyota is renound for its "safe" cars. When i say safe, sure i mean safe in terms of crashes etc, but my true meaning of "safe" is more-so BORING cars that are a "safe" marketing decision, something toyota only knows how to produce after 1996.

The MR2 wowed many people with its release and its great results in japanese motorsport and also worldwide motorsports even. This must have inspired honda to make an even more radical project, the NSX (New Sports eXperimental).... best described as an MR2 on steroids, it was the car that bridges the gap between MR2 and Ferarris.

NSX made use of VTEC that was first introduced to give the little b16a Civic SI-R high power and streetabilit, but this time applied its formula and technology to a 3.0l engine !
Anybody who has driven a b16a/b can tell you what a great engine it is, then imagine it with about double the cubic capacity... plus the fact that VTEC would be come more and more effective as the capacitiy is larger.

one of my favs was 1983. That year brought the arrrival of a mass produced 1587cc (1.6litre) engine with twin overhead camshafts and 4 valves per cylinder, variable intake technology (TVIS), as well as multipoint electronic fuel injections. A truely advanced engine, the toyota 4AGE. The 4age is used in both my toyota ae86 Trueno and my aw11 MR2.

There was so so many stand out cars with radical new technologies back in the late 1980s and early 1990s in japan due to the booming economy. Now days its a different story, the great sports car era was over a long time ago. many of those cars i mentioned are no longer in production due to the Japanese economy, world economy and generally sooky people who can not handle such cars.

AE86 was replaced by a less pure front wheel drive varient, the ae92. then in the late 1990s, the 4AGE engine was finally retired.

s15 was the last Silvia to be produced, and Carloss Gohsn of renault killed off the idea of of a lightweight-ish rear drive turbo 2.0 to meet tightening emissions laws. rather than develop a new engine to power it, it was just killed off.

R34 Skyline was replaced by the boring V35 skyline that looked more like a volkswagon. Once again, Due to Carloss wanting a "euro nissan" brand.

MR2 and MR-S died off as people can nnot handle midship cars, and also due to the fact that it is more profitable to sell boring corollas, than to target a niche market such as the people who own MR2 and MR-S.

RX7 Spirit R, the final FD3S mazda RX7 was the last rotary turbo car to be produced. It was replaced by the worse in every aspect mazda RX8.

those are just a few examples of the great exciting cars dieing out, there is far more, but i just dont want to be repetitive any more, and im sure you get the idea.

To put it simply, cars these days are just, in one word..... BORING.
No sports cars can catch my interest really.

Sure 350z and S2000 and Rx8 are good and all, but the price is prohibitive for me... not in terms of money, but in terms of common sence.

why spend 35,000 dollars or so on a decent second hand s2000 (my pick of the new sports cars), when for 10,000 i can buy a japanese imported toyota MR2 SW20 mid 1990s model. that old mr2 accelerates faster, turns corners better and brakes just as well, if not better.... all for 25,000 less ! i could spend 5,000 dollars n the mr2 and have it blisteringly fast by doing a few small engine mods and a budget suspension upgrade. Still i have saved 20,000 and have an AMAZING car.

ok, fine, if i have to get a new car (post 1998) then why buy that honda S2000 for 35,000 when for 5 to 10,000 more i can get a mid engined porsche boxster... cooler looking, faster, turns better, and brakes better..... hell, proberly that 45,000 porsche boxter (one of the best value new-ish sports cars in the world if you ask me) can not even stand up to that 10,000 dollar SW20 mr2 that i spent the 5,000 dollars on !

new cars just lack excitement and also value for money.

ok, now its time to get back to driving my AW11 MR2 from 1989.... chances are i will overtake expensive new car, on the inside of my favourite corner on the way to the grocery shops ;)

Self Esteem.... not one of my strongest areas, due to how i have grow up.

firstly, nobody understands the racism and critisisms that half asians face.... especially those with blue eyes.

Firstly, not all people are racist. I have a wonderful and loving girlfriend who is a fullblood Chinese, we have been together for almost a year now and love each other very much. Yep, thats right, she can love somebody with blue eyes, and she thinks my eyes are very attractive.

although, i myself can not feel this all the time.

im very critical on myself in terms of physical appearance due to my low self esteem.

here in australia people will look at me and see asian, also see white, then see blue eyes and thing, nope he cant be asian if the eye color is blue. i was given the very rare trait of blue eyes from my "father" it seems.

Due to DNA make up of the Double Helix and all things that stem from it, half asians have four different looks.

1. look almost full asian
2. look like a mix of asian and white.
3. look like there own unique way, very hard for others to guess what they are.
4. look almost full white.

i feel i look a inbetween 2 and 3... if it wasnt for my blue eyes, i would say my look is number 2.

at times i have encountered a lot of hurtful comments as a youngster and even now as an adult it still goes on.

certain people can view you as not "asian" due to not being fullblood... where is the common sence, 50% of something IS something.... if you have 50% of a chocolate bar, you dont have NO chocolate bar, am i right ?

basically you get racism from both sides, too white to be "asian", too "asian" to be white....its pretty hard to fit in.

for those wondering, i guess i should state my nationalities.

i am a half yamato japanese and half american.
i speak decent Nihongo (Japan's national language) as well as decent Mandarin (china's national language)

in japan people would always speak japanese to me, as japan is more knowlegeable of mixed blood people.... not to say they are any more accepting tho.

everywhere a mixed blood lives, they are bound to encounter racism. although i must say everybodys acceptance of me in japan was amazing.

here in melbourne i am starting to feel a lot of acceptance, apart from the occaisinal tools, its pretty good here now.

i am accepted into my girlfriends family and it really makes me happy to see.

now i just need to overcome this body image issue... the more people accept me, the easier it becomes.

now all it takes is time and progress.

ganbarimasu !
