I enjoy playing around on the streets in my AW11 toyota MR2. The body is compact and light weight with a short wheelbase and most importantly is Mid Engined (engine sits behind the driver), so the mr2 handles amazingly well on the streets.... without wanting to sound pretentious, i am very confident that this mr2 that i own handles just as good as many ferraris. Breaking is also a strong point of my MR2, its very good at it. Acceleration wise, its decent.
Acceleration wise, back in the 1980s it was a very fast car. But nowdays it leaves a lot to be desired as other cars have become more powerful.
Yesterday i played around a little. I saw a new holden astra VXR (2.0l turbo hot hatch that is blisteringly fast), it was playing around and having fun on the road. after a couple of corners i got close to it, and then we approached a 3 lane roundabout that leaves a choice of many cornering lines.
I approached and by the time we exited the roundabout, i was sitting right on his rear bumper... a win for me. then on the entrance to the freeway, he floored the accelerator and after noticing he did, I also floored it. Its amazingly smooth turbo engine had the torque to just pull away from me with so much ease..... I was OWNED (in terms of power) but won in terms of handling.
I came to realize that MR2 is great for playing around on suburban streets and in mountain pass (touge), but once it becomes a high speed stage (highway) the AW11 has no chance).
Now i am looking at getting a SAISOKU (top speed) type of car to have fun in. Co-incidently i have just started watching WANGAN MIDNIGHT a few days before this event taken place.
An S30z with L28KAI would be nice.
